During the days leading up to Easter, the local people paint the external of heir houses white and clean the roads of their villages.
On Thursday before Easter, the housewives paint eggs red.
On Good Friday night Christ’s Epitaph is being carried on young men’s shoulders through the roads the village in candlelight, while the ladies sprinkle cologne to all people. The whole atmosphere created here is exceptionally touching.
On Saturday before Easter, at midnight, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated within an atmosphere of joy with bells ringing and spectacular fireworks.
On Easter Sunday, thew local people welcome the icon of Virgin Mary Chosoviotissa, which is carried in hands all the way from the monastery and “visits” all the villages of the island in a procession.
In the afternoon of Easter Sunday, the Holy Service called “Esperinos tis Agapis” takes place and afterwards, young people play traditional team games in the church yard.
Feasts with local dance and music take place throughout the week after Easter Sunday.
